The annual BENSON DAYS community celebration is presented by the Benson Business Association. This year’s event is Saturday, July 27th, beginning at 8 a.m. with a pancake breakfast in front of the Mainstage at 61st & Maple streets. Following the breakfast, the Benson Neighborhood Association’s annual parade (10 am) will feature longtime businesswoman Jane Beran, serving as Grand Marshal. The parade begins at Benson High School, winds through downtown Benson and ends at 63rd & Maple streets.

From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the whole family can enjoy activities along Maple Street from 59th through 63rd including a Kid Zone at the Benson Community Center, over 80 artists and vendor booths, farmers market, live music on the Mainstage and open houses at various businesses.

In the evening, Benson Days “After Dark” will allow adults age 21 entry into five different Benson bars, each featuring five different bands. Wristbands cost $10.00 each and funds go back to support future community events.

 

Pancake Breakfast
8 am – 10 am

Delicious breakfast by The Pancake Man – only $5 per plate (all ages)
The pancake breakfast is sponsored by TSYS Merchant Solutions and funds support the Benson Neighborhood Association (BNA).

 

Benson Days Parade
10 am – 11 am

The BNA’s community parade beginning at Benson High School and proceeding through downtown Benson.
The parade is sponsored by Great Western Bank.

 

Kids’ Zone!
11 am – 6 pm

Children’s area featuring inflatable activities, education, face painting and more!

 

Arts + Crafts Fair
11 am – 6 pm

Handmade goods from the community’s most talented local artists.

 

Street Festival
11 am – 6 pm

Pop-up shops, delicious food and fun for all of Benson.

 

Mainstage
12 pm – 9 pm

Live local music and the frostiest beverages in Benson (21+).
The Mainstage is sponsored by the Benson Business Improvement District

 

Benson Days “After Dark”
9 pm – 2 am

5 bars x 5 bands = 25 awesome shows (21+).

About The Author

Kurt Goetzinger is the owner and operator of Omaha Advertising, an advertising/public relations firm, and Omaha Television, an online video channel, in Omaha, Nebraska. He has served on the boards of the Benson Neighborhood Association and Benson Business Association. In 2003 Kurt launched the community website www.BensonNebraska.com. In 2009 he created and continues to administrator of the Benson, Nebraska Facebook page and Twitter account. Kurt and his family moved to Benson in 1975, when his father's company was transferred from Chicago. He was educated at Omaha Central High School and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Kurt owns a 1911 farmhouse at 60th & Lafayette on the south side of Benson. In 2010 he purchased the empty lot next door, turning it into Benson Community Garden.
