(OMAHA, Neb. –June 21, 2012) – Marjorie Benson Loring, daughter of the man who founded the town of Benson, Nebraska will return to Omaha to serve as the Benson Days’ grand marshall. The parade will take place on Saturday, July 28th and will run from 52nd Street & Northwest Radial Highway to 62nd and Maple Streets.
In 1887 Erastus Benson, a business partner of Thomas Edison, founded the town of Benson, Nebraska. The community grew to nearly 5,000 residents before being annexed by the City of Omaha in 1917. The historic buildings and small-town feel remain, but the area has evolved into Omaha’s vibrant arts and entertainment district.
Organizations interested in participating in the parade can register at www.bensonnebraska.com/125th/benson-days/parade/ or by calling (402) 350-1175. The parade is presented by the Benson Neighborhood Association and sponsored by Hal Daub for Regents.
“Each year we present a street festival in Benson,” said Kurt Goetzinger, Benson Business Association vice president. “But, to commemorate our quasquicentennial, we wanted to expand the one day event into a whole 3-day weekend of celebrations.”
The other events include a free concert (The Confidentials) and fireworks show in Benson Park, music and art festival, street dance, street vendors, mainstage performances, and interfaith worship service in Gallagher Park.
